Admission to this advanced degree program is based upon both prior scholastic achievements (including coursework, and scores on the Graduate Record Examination and Advanced Test in Biology), and demonstrated aptitude for independent, original biological research. The program requires 60 credit hours of course work beyond the B.S. and 10 or more additional hours of research that result in an original research dissertation. The Ph.D. is a requirement for most research and/or teaching positions in academia, government and industry.
