The Department of Immunology offers research opportunities in various areas of molecular and cellular immunology. Current interests in the department include studies of lymphocyte antigen-receptor expression and recognition, the regulation of cellular interactions in the immune system, cell activation, and lymphocyte development. A close association with faculty in clinical departments provides opportunities for study in clinically related areas of immunology. The program of study includes courses in molecular and cell biology, biochemistry, genetics, and microbiology, in addition to thorough training in all aspects of immunology. Seminars, journal clubs, laboratory meetings, and an annual retreat are important components of the doctoral program. The department is housed in modern research facilities which include well-equipped research laboratories and core equipment and areas including flow cytometry, cytogenetics and spectral karyotyping, transgenic animals, and nucleic acid sequencing.
