The Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department (MAE) has a long and distinguished history in education and research. Our graduates include many talented individuals who now hold major leadership positions in industry, government and academia. Members of our faculty and staff are intellectual leaders in the research fields of Thermal Sciences, Fluid Mechanics, Dynamics and Controls, Applied Physics, and Material Science.

MAE students, faculty and staff enjoy numerous interactions with other departments and programs both in the School of Engineering and Applied Science (SEAS), and in the Princeton University community at large. Among these interactions are strong ties to the Program in Applied and Computational Mathematics (PACM), the Department of Astrophysical Sciences, the Princeton Environmental Institute (PEI), and the Princeton Institute for the Science and Technology of Materials (PRISM).

Our educational mission is to prepare students to become future leaders in society. To this end our students benefit from exposure to the broad range of disciplines and interests represented in the Department and from their participation in the rich and lively intellectual environment of the University as a whole.
