The Department of Operations offered the first operations research Ph.D. program anywhere. Graduates of our Ph.D. program include many distinguished professionals in academe, business and government. The Ph.D. degree is normally completed in four or more years. Required and elective courses in an area of specialization are arranged to form a coherent program of study. A student is admitted to Ph.D. candidacy after passing two comprehensive examinations. The student demonstrates the ability to do independent research through writing a dissertation that makes a significant contribution to knowledge in the field. The Ph.D. is administered by the School of Graduate Studies.
