Baylor’s Ph.D. in Religion provides an opportunity for exceptional students to do graduate work at the highest level and in a university setting. It provides
preparation for research and teaching in graduate theological education and in the college and university setting where Religion is taught as one of the liberal arts and
in relation to other such disciplines, particularly the humanities, the social sciences, and the natural sciences. The Baylor program offers work in three areas: Biblical
Studies (New Testament, Old Testament), Historical Studies (Church History, World Religions), and Theological Studies (Historical Theology, Systematic Theology,
Contemporary Theology, Christian Ethics, and Religion and Literature). Since most graduates take their first jobs in liberal arts departments, the curriculum requires
work in a variety of areas within the discipline of Religion, as well as interdisciplinary work in areas outside the department.
