The Department of Sanskrit Indian Studies offers programs leading to the degree of doctor of philosophy and, exceptionally, master of arts. The focus of the programs is the textual study of Sanskrit and/or Tibetan literature and the respective cultural contexts. Students are normally admitted to the PhD program, where they study Classical Sanskrit and/or Tibetan texts, as well as other varieties and styles of Sanskrit (or Middle Indic)/Tibetan (or other Himalayan languages), in their cultural and historical context.
