The graduate programs in structural engineering prepare students for careers in industry, professional practice, research and teaching. Experience has shown that job opportunities are excellent for students who receive advanced degrees in civil engineering at Case Western Reserve University. Recent advanced degree recipients have found positions in universities, geotechnical and structural consulting firms, petroleum companies, plant design firms, and aerospace firms, among others.
Each student’s program of course work and research is tailored to his or her interests, in close consultation with the faculty advisor. For students working toward the Master of Science degree there are two possible plans, A and B. In plan A, a research thesis is required. In plan B, a project and additional course work are substituted for the thesis. For students working toward the Doctor of Philosophy degree a research thesis is required.
