Doctor's degrees in Biophysics: A program that focuses on the application of physics principles to the scientific study the mechanisms of biological processes and assemblies at all levels of complexity. Includes instruction in research methods and equipment operation and applications to subjects such as bioenergetics, biophysical theory and modeling, electrophysics, membrane biology, channels, receptors and transporters, contractility and muscle function, protein shaping and folding, molecular and supramolecular structures and assemblies, and computational science.
The Ph.D. in human bioenergetics focuses on research and should be pursued only by students who have a serious commitment to the science of exercise physiology. This degree requires the completion of at least 90 semester hours of graduate work, including master's degree (30 hrs allowed) and dissertation hours. The doctorate requires approximately three years to complete.
The Graduate Programs within the new department stems from a common first year curriculum and develops into parrallel and overlapping paths. A small group of core courses taken in the first year are required for both the physiology and biophysics programs and will lead to a level of understanding of the two disciplines necessary to allow students to make choices in their program paths. In this approach, all students have flexibility to choose the...
Biophysics and Structural Biology (B&SB) trains Ph.D. students to carry out independent research using quantitative approaches to the structures, dynamics, and mechanisms of biological macromolecules. This flexible, individualized graduate program is specifically designed for students with strong quantitative undergraduate backgrounds (e.g., in physics, chemistry, engineering, biophysics, mathematics) who desire to bring these skills to bear on biological...
Graduate study in biophysics is interdisciplinary and highly individualized. Students majoring in biophysics are expected to obtain a broad, interdisciplinary knowledge of fundamental principles in both the biological and physical sciences. But because biophysics covers a wide range of areas, it would be unrealistic to expect to master each facet in detail. A student working in computational modeling of protein motions will develop a strong background...
Overview The Physiology, Biophysics & Systems Biology (PBSB) graduate program at Weill Cornell Graduate School of Medical Sciences (WCGS) is designed to engage students in education through research in current and innovative aspects of three synergistic components of modern biomedicine: physiology”the functions of cells, tissues, and organs; biophysics”the application of principles of physics to biological processes; and systems”the complex interactions...
Initiated in 1959 by Arthur K. Solomon, the Committee on Higher Degrees Biophysics at Harvard University has a long history of important research achievements. Over 60 faculty members from departments including Physics, Chemistry & Chemical Biology, Molecular and Cellular Biology, Engineering Sciences, the Division of Applied Sciences, the Division of Medical Sciences (Genetics, Microbiology and Molecular Genetics, Cell Biology, Neurobiology and the...
The Stanford Biophysics Program is an interdisciplinary, interdepartmental training program leading to the Ph.D. Degree biophysics. The program centers on understanding biological function in terms of physical and chemical principles. The Program comprises faculty from 16 departments in the Schools of Humanities and Sciences, Medicine, Engineering, and the Stanford Synchrotron Radiation Laboratory. Research in the Program involves two overlapping...
