The Medical Assisting program is a specialized training program that provides the student with the knowledge and skills to become a competent medical assistant in the medical profession. Important attributes of successful program graduates are critical thinking, problem solving, human relations skills, and the ability to apply knowledge and skills to the work environment. The field is presently experiencing rapid expansion, and the trend is expected to continue in the foreseeable future. After completion of this five-quarter day program, the student is encouraged to take the National Certification Exam to become a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA). The Augusta Technical College Medical Assisting Program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP), on recommendation of the Curriculum Review Board of the American Association of Medical Assistants’ Endowment (AAMAE). High school graduation or GED is required for admission to this program.
