-Degree Requirements-
Information technology (IT) is an exciting field that has profoundly transformed organizations and institutions over the past 50 years, creating global economies that are increasingly based on the creation, processing, and dissemination of information through hardware, software, and communication technologies. IT has helped foster innovation in practically every field, including medicine, entertainment, education, and business administration.

The Master of Liberal Arts in Information Technology (ALM in IT) degree engages students in this field of study, exposing them to modern software engineering methodologies, theoretical and formal areas of computer science, advanced topics in cryptography, nanoscale science, and enterprise computing, as well as the latest trends in IT management. Due to the advanced nature of many of our more than 40 course offerings, individuals need to possess either solid programming experience using a modern object-oriented programming language or a strong background in mathematics before matriculating. The Extension School runs its own state-of-the-art computing facilities that give students access to contemporary hardware and software systems featuring Windows, Macintosh OS, and Linux-based workstations.

ALM in IT degree candidates may choose from three areas of concentration: software engineering, mathematics and computation, and information management systems.
