IT is short for Information Technology, a broad term covering all aspects of managing and processing information. IT professionals design, develop, support and manage computer software, hardware, and networks, such as the Internet. The applications of these technologies are all around us. In fact, IT is probably already a part of your life in ways you aren't even aware of. Computer software used to write a term paper, computer generated animation in a blockbuster movie, networks and programs that let you order books over the Internet, and satellites and systems that enable NASA to conduct remote space exploration are all developed by creative and dedicated IT professionals.

What Would I Be Studying?
The student would study network systems using the Cisco Networking Academy curriculum. The Networking Academy would prepare students for industry-recognized certifications. The curriculum provides in-demand Internet technology skills for designing, building and maintaining networks as well as basic skill in UNIX, Web design, IT Essentials, Voice and Data Cabling, and Java Programming. Combining instructor-led, online education with hands-on laboratory exercises, the curriculum enables students to apply what they learn in class while working on actual networks. From building a Web site to basic networking skills to advanced VLAN troubleshooting, the Networking Academy curriculum is cutting edge.

What Certifications Can I Get?
The Cisco Networking Academy prepares students for the CCNA (Certified Cisco Networking Associate) exam and for the Network+ certification, certification in basic networking skills, which is available through CompTIA (Computing Technology Industry Association).

The student will also be prepared for the CompTIA A+ certification. A+ certification is the industry standard for validating skills expected of an entry-level computer technician. Those holding the A+ certification have a broad base of knowledge and competency in core hardware and operating system technologies including installation, configuration, diagnosing, preventive maintenance and basic networking.
