Glenville State College is a small four-year college located in Glenville, West Virginia which is in rural north-central West Virginia. It has about 1,600 students. The primary major is elementary and secondary education, however other majors are available. The Forestry program is considered by many to be world-class. The school was founded at the Glenville branch of the state normal school in 1872. It became a full four-year college under its current name in 1931. During the 1990's the school experienced an enrollment decline, leading many to question the future viability of the school. But since 2001, enrollment has seen a small but steady annual increase. In athletics, the school's teams are known as the Pioneers and compete in the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. They have teams in American football, basketball, track and field, golf and volleyball.
