About this School
Great Basin College is a community college unit of the University and Community College System of Nevada, located in Elko, Nevada, USA. Opened in 1967 as "Elko Community College", it was later renamed to "Northern Nevada Community College" and then to its current name. It has approximately 4,700 students. The College offers two-year associate's degrees in a number of fields. It offers Associate of Applied Science degrees in the areas of business, computer office technology, criminal justice, early childhood education, industrial technology, and nursing. Associate of Arts and Associate of Science degrees are also offered, primarily for people wishing to eventually earn a four-year bachelor's degree at another institution. Certificate programs and short-term training programs also exist in several business, secretarial/administrative assistant, and industrial arts fields. The College also offers four-year bachelor's degrees in Elementary Education, Management Technology, Instrumentation Technology, and Integrative and Professional Studies. A four-year bachelor's degree in Nursing is to be offered shortly. The College has Adult Learning Centers located in the Nevada towns of Elko, Winnemucca, Ely, Owyhee, Jackpot, Wendover, Wells, and Battle Mountain to help people improve their reading, writing, arithmetic, and English language skills.
