  • Houston Baptist University (commonly abbreviated HBU) is a private Baptist instution founded in 1960. It is located in the southwest part of Houston, Texas near the Southwest Freeway.

Academics

  • HBU has been ranked in the top tier among the "Best Universities" offering master's degrees in the Western region by U.S.News & World Report (http://www.hbu.edu/Pages/best/)
  • HBU offers academic programs in more than 50 undergraduate majors and pre-professional programs range from Biblical Languages to Nursing.
  • A unique double major program allows students to delve deeper into one area of interest, or combine two different interests with majors from different colleges. The double major is generally a requirement for most undergraduate studies.
  • All classes are faculty-taught, and more than half of classes have fewer than 20 students.

Life on Campus

  • Men’s and women’s residence colleges and on-campus apartments for upperclassmen offer convenience and camaraderie.
  • Students get involved through participation in intramurals, club sports, and a variety of social, service and honor organizations.

Spiritual Life

  • Spiritual Life Points are a requirement for graduation and may be earned through a variety of opportunities including on campus worship, weekly Convocations, small group Bible studies, and through the ACTS office which coordinates community service and volunteer work in the Houston community.
  • HBU also offers a chance for students to travel to different countries on mission trips.
