The Carpentry Certificate program provides students the opportunity to acquire knowledge and technical skills necessary to gain employment in the construction industry. Students will read and interpret construction blueprints, experience techniques using concrete for foundations, framing of building walls, erecting roofing systems, installing drywall and taping. Students focus on bedding and wall finishes as well as exterior and interior door hanging, window installation and trim work. The building of a “cottage” from the ground up is a required part of the carpentry curriculum. The application of the International Residential Code is emphasized.
