Graphic design is visual communication. It is the art and experience of combining image and text to express a style and communicate a message. Graphic Designers become skilled in a variety disciplines: art, photography, typography, digital, online, and other technological experiences. As an expression, graphic design had its origins with the invention of writing, but only in the late 19th century was graphic design thought of as a profession.
The most important concept to grasp is that all design experiences are important and that we can learn from them whether they are traditional, physical, offline experiences or whether they are digital, online, or other technological experiences.
What designers need to understand first is what makes a good design experience, and then to translate these principles, as well as possible, into the desired media.
