Students entering the program should be tactful, patient, understanding, emotionally stable, dependable, and have a desire to help people. They should be able to work as part of team, have good communication skills, and be willing to perform repetitive, routine tasks. Home Health Aides should be honest and discreet, as they work in private homes. They may actually spend a good portion of their time traveling from house to house, therefore it imperative that the student know how to drive and have access to reliable transportation.
This is a non-competitive career program designed to enable students to seek employment at the program’s completion. If you plan to transfer to a four-year college/university, please check with you advisor and the Student Success Center as soon as possible. Successful completion of this program qualifies a student to apply for a College certificate Home Health Aide. Through a contract with the Licensed Home Health Agency department of the Western Maryland Health System, the successful student will also be able to apply to take the Home Health Aide Certification Exam.
