The Medical Coding Certificate Program prepares students to become medical coding specialists, training them to understand coding principles, guidelines, medical terminology and coding regulation changes. The program is designed to offer a wide variety of learning experiences, including classroom lectures, computerized coding and clinical experiences in other health care settings. Coders who have gained several years of experience in hospitals or in an ambulatory setting may elect to take the Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or Certified Coding Specialist - Physician (CCS-P) exams offered by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA)
