If you’re looking for a stepping-stone to the professional ladder of nursing, but need a short-term training program that quickly gets you into the job market, then the Patient Care Assistant Program is what you want. As a Patient Care Assistant, you perform basic nursing functions under the supervision of the nurse, Registered Nurse, or Licensed Practical Nurse. Graduates completing this Program can work in all health care facilities including nursing homes, and retirement homes. Since this Program also includes the Home Health Aide training components, you also have the flexibility to provide care to patients in their own residences, as well.
Note: Certified PCA's may upgrade to Patient Care Technician by completing the phlebotomy and EKG programs and there by obtain employment in a hospital setting.
This 400-hour (12-16 Week) Program is comprehensive and includes specifics such as:
Introduction to health care facilities
Legal and ethical responsibilities
Medical terminology
Emergency care
Infection control
Nutrition and therapeutic diets
Gerontology
Nursing procedures
