The Building Maintenance program is a two-year course for mild to moderate multiple disability students (not deaf-blind) between the ages of 16 and 22 that teaches basic skills in the upkeep and maintenance of buildings and facilities. This 10 month program, (1080 hrs), is designed to teach skills necessary for entry-level position in residential and commercial building construction and maintenance.
Student study structural layout (site, foundation, and block), framing (floor, wall, and roof), masonry, interior and exterior finishes, floor covering, electrical and plumbing applications, and correct use of hand and power tools.
Prepares students for entry-level career in the home building industry and union
apprenticeships. The student will work on active, hands-on projects that combine
carpentry, plumbing, and electrical skills. Student must enroll in 2 consecutive
semesters. To complete this program the student must commit to fulltime enrollment.
