The Dental Assisting program is designed to prepare students to assist the dentist with total office management. The program provides students the opportunity to learn skills in chairside assisting, dental laboratory procedures, and "front office" administrative duties. The overall objective is to provide students with the training necessary to obtain an entry-level position in the field of dental assisting. The program is fully accredited by the American Dental Association Commission on Dental Accreditation. Students will be eligible to take the Pennsylvania Radiology Exam and receive training in CPR as part of their program. Dental Assisting students participate in clinical experiences at local dental offices.
General Entrance Requirements
The student must be service oriented and enjoy working with people. Student abilities should include reading comprehension, writing skills, oral comprehension, and time management. The student should have good manual dexterity, and eye-hand coordination. Documentation of high school graduation or a GED certification is required prior to admission. Dental Assistant students are offered the Hepatitis B Vaccine upon admission into the program.
Instructional Equipment
Instructional equipment includes, but is not limited to, patient mannequins, X-ray equipment, electronic typewriters, computers, Bunsen burners, lathes, dental instruments, articulators, and autoclaves.
Employment Opportunities
Graduates qualify for entry-level positions in private dental offices, dental schools, public health facilities, VA clinics, and dental specialty offices.
