The Academy of Oriental Medicine at Austin offers a comprehensive program of study leading to the degree of Master of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (MAcOM). The program is accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (ACAOM), the agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education to accredit professional programs in this field. AOMA graduates are eligible to sit for national board examinations administered by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM). Successful completion of these examinations leads to certification in both Oriental medicine and is a prerequisite for licensure in most states that license acupuncturists. Additionally, AOMA's acupuncture and Oriental medicine program is approved by the California Acupuncture Board, allowing graduates to sit for the state examination for licensure in California.
The Asian bodywork therapy component of AOMA’s graduate program is approved by the American Organization for Bodywork Therapies of Asia (AOBTA). Students who successfully complete the necessary curriculum requirements may apply to the AOBTA for national certification as Asian bodywork therapists and to the NCCAOM for the national board exam and certification.
