Admission Requirements:
Students desiring to enroll in this program must hold a baccalaureate degree
from an accredited institution and are generally expected to have the equivalent
of an undergraduate major in art. Prospective candidates with a major other
than art who possess exceptional talent in art may be accepted on the basis
of their original art work. Students enrolled in the final year of undergraduate
study may be admitted to graduate study pending verification of receipt of the
baccalaureate degree.
Degree Requirements:
The requirements for a Master of Arts degree in art with a concentration in
metalsmithing will be 36 semester hours.
Eighteen of the 36 hours must be taken in a common core of courses as listed
below: (minimum of 36 semester hours)
Required Core (18 hours)
* AR 501: Theory and Criticism of Art (3 credit hours)
* AR 502: Special Projects (3 credit hours)
* AR 508: Drawing (3 credit hours)
* AR 503: Research Methods for the Visual Arts (3 credit hours)
* AR 598: *Thesis (6 credit hours)
*Thesis may be either research or creative work and must be defended in an
oral review which constitutes a comprehensive examination. A thesis composed
of creative work must be accompanied by a supporting paper. Application must
be made to the Office of Graduate Studies.
Concentration Hours (9 hours)
* Major: Four classes in Major studio emphasis (9 hours)
Elective Hours (9 hours)
* Elective hours are to be chosen in consultation with the adviser.
