The Mailman School of Public Health of Columbia University offers the degree of Master of Science in Biostatistics, with an emphasis on issues in the statistical analysis and design of clinical studies. The Clinical Research Methods track was conceived and designed for clinicians who are pursuing research careers in academic medicine.

The purpose of the Master of Science/ Clinical Research Methods (MS/CRM) degree program is to provide formal, rigorous training in skills critical to the design and analysis of patient-oriented research studies. It is intended for physicians, nurses, dentists, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals who plan careers or are actively engaged in clinical research.

Through specially focused coursework and a supervised research project, candidates for the MS/CRM degree will hone their quantitative talents to better pursue research objectives in their chosen fields. As the level of competitiveness for limited research support increases, it is more important than ever before to develop a well-designed study with a strong analytic plan. Mastery of applied biostatistical methods improves the likelihood of assembling compelling and effective clinical research projects and promoting good research practices.
