The M.Div. degree is the flagship degree for theological education and ministerial
training. It provides a thorough education across the theological disciplines
of biblical studies, theology, Church history, missions and practical theology
to furnish men and women for pastoral leadership in church ministry, as well
as providing an academic specialty that prepares students for continued graduate
work in Ph.D. and D.Min. programs. At AGTS, the M.Div. degree requires 90 credits
of study in four major components.
Practical Theology Track (39 credits)
Students who choose a concentration in practical theology must complete 24 credits
of foundation courses in Bible and theology and may choose concentrations in
either Christian ministry or counseling. The counseling concentration (15 credits)
does not prepare students for licensure as counselors or marriage and family
therapists. Students seeking a licensable degree should take the M.A. in Counseling
that includes 51-60 credits in counseling.
