The Special Education programs are committed to the quality preparation and further development of future teachers who educate students with disabilities. The M.Ed. with Certification provides courses for dual Arizona certification for teaching K-12 special education and 1-8 elementary education. Graduates receive cross-categorical endorsements to teach students with mild disabilities in the categories of learning disabilities, behavior disorders, mental retardation, orthopedic impairments, and traumatic brain injury. Further, graduates of the Special Education teacher education program also are eligible for elementary education certification for first through eighth grades. This versatility allows graduates to be effective educators in special education general education classrooms where they use their specialized skills in assessment, individualized instruction, social-behavior management, and parent and professional communications. Graduates have the option of selecting either special education or general education positions within their chosen districts.
