The program of study required will differ significantly between those who hold master's degree educational administration and those who do not. Those with a master’s degree that includes 30 graduate semester hours of educational administration courses require a minimum 6 additional graduate semester hours in educational administration and 30 other graduate semester hours (which may and should include some additional courses in educational administration). Those with a master’s degree in another field (e.g., elementary education), are required to complete 36 hours in educational administration. Once state approval of the progroam is granted, those students completing the program and holding an Arizona teaching certificate will be issued an Institutional Recommendation (IR) which is required by the Arizona State Department of Education for issuing a Superintendent Certificate.
