Program Mission and Philosophy
Within the Conceptual Framework of the Clemmer College of Education, the mission of the M.Ed. in Elementary Education program is to enhance the knowledge and skills of teachers at the elementary school level. The M.Ed. in Elementary Education program is designed to prepare “Teachers as Leaders.”
Upon completion of the Master of Education Elementary Education program, degree candidates are expected to:
possess the General Knowledge, Content Knowledge, and Professional Knowledge to enable them to be effective and successful teachers in the elementary grades;
show appreciation for the Diversity represented in elementary classrooms;
develop both confidence and competence in their students and, as Caring professionals, work toward making certain all learners are encouraged to reach their full potential;
model Social Responsibility in their personal and professional lives, and provide opportunities for learners to engage in socially responsible behaviors;
utilize both informal and formal assessments to evaluate and ensure the continuous progress of learners;
be proficient in the appropriate uses of technology to enhance classroom instruction;
demonstrate superior communication, Collaboration, and Leadership skills;
engage in Reflective Practice in order to continually improve their teaching;
be skillful in designing, implementing, and evaluating action research projects in order to improve instruction at the elementary school level, and as an avenue toward Lifelong Learning.
