The Elementary Education Program prepares classroom teachers for grades 1-6 as well as for other learning environments such as museums, community agencies, and hospitals. The program emphasizes a solid academic liberal arts foundation as well as study in the foundations of education, educational research, and research-based pedagogy specific to the diverse subjects of the elementary school curriculum.

The graduate program is designed for a student with a liberal arts undergraduate degree who seeks advanced provisional certification as an elementary classroom teacher. It may also be possible to complete the requirements for standard certification as an elementary classroom teacher. Students have the option of pursuing certification at the advanced provisional level or at the standard level. The program includes prepracticum field experiences, foundations in education, and curriculum courses, as well as a student teaching experience and the option of a clinical practice.
