-Degree Requirements-

The Intermediate Development Education (IDE) Graduate Engineering Physics Program is a twelve month program for IDE students attending AFIT leading to a Master of Science degree. Students normally enter as a class in June and graduate a year later. The Department of Engineering Physics offers an engineering physics specialty under this program in the area of nuclear weapons. The specialty provides the student with the graduate level foundation in engineering physics necessary to understand and critically evaluate emerging technology. Mastery will be demonstrated in a report and presentation summarizing the results of the capstone engineering design study.

Admission Requirements:
Students entering these programs will have an undergraduate degree in physics, engineering, meteorology, astronomy or chemistry. The basic requirements for admission are an overall undergraduate grade point average, GPA, of at least a B (3.00), a GPA on all mathematics courses of at least a B (3.00); GRE scores of at least 500 on the verbal test and 600 on the quantitative test. Waivers of some of these requirements can be granted on an individual basis by the Department of Engineering Physics.

Curriculum:
Programs are four quarters in length. The first two quarters of each program stress foundational physics and mathematics. During the remaining two quarters the student concentrates on applied and specialized courses and pursues a design study

Program Requirements
Core: 12 hours , PHYS 601, PHYS 635, NENG 651
Math: 4 hours , MATH 511 or MATH 508
Nuclear Weapons Courses: 12 hours, NENG 605, NENG 631, NENG 635
Design Study: 5 hours, PHYS 790
Other approved courses to meet minimum 48 hour requirement
