The Program in Epidemiology offers interdisciplinary instruction and research opportunities leading to the M.S. degree epidemiology. The program has research strengths in the following areas: cancer epidemiology, cardiovascular disease epidemiology, clinical epidemiology, infectious disease epidemiology, genetic epidemiology, and neurological disease epidemiology, as well as some aspects of epidemiologic methods, and environmental and occupational epidemiology.

The M.S. program in Epidemiology is designed to provide training in epidemiologic methods to professionals in a variety of related fields and to considering careers in epidemiology. It is recommended that applicants to serve as an introduction to epidemiology to those with baccalaureate degrees who are the M.S. program have previous course work in biology and statistics or mathematics. To receive the degree, students are expected to obtain a thorough grounding in epidemiologic methods and applied biostatistics, and to demonstrate research skills through completion of a master's thesis. In addition, a curriculum in clinical research methods has been established specifically to enhance the training of clinical investigators. The clinical epidemiology track of the M.S. program in epidemiology has been designed to provide training in epidemiologic methods, statistical analysis, and other areas essential to patient-oriented clinical research to clinical investigators in training
