Drawing is a basic and indispensable component of any comprehensive studio arts curriculum. Ball State's drawing program focuses on skill development, conceptual development, and applied methodologies. Drawing is regarded as both a traditional and a contemporary area of study.
Students are introduced to a wide range of media and techniques with emphasis on well-informed practice, experimentation, and expression. Our students often become professional studio artists, graphic illustrators, and educators.
The drawing program begins with fundamental concepts and practice and proceeds through a directed sequence of studio experiences, including figure drawing, to more advanced studies. The contextual, historical, and stylistic aspects of drawing are an integral part of the curriculum. Analytical and critical thinking are stressed, and interdisciplinary and collaborative studies are encouraged.
