"The Century of Religion" ... that's how our religious, scholarly, and political leaders are already describing the twenty-first century. With an increasingly globalized and migratory world, our local communities are becoming more religiously diverse every day. Regardless of where you live -- San Diego, South Dakota or Seoul -- the realities of religious diversity affect us all.

With an emphasis in Inter-religious Understanding, you will be prepared to negotiate the complex issues of religious diversity and inter-religious dialogue in your own academic, religious and/or professional context. You will work closely with a faculty advisor to select classes that broaden your understanding of specific religious traditions and deepen your grasp of the most current theories of religious pluralism.

Because you can also cross-enroll at Claremont Graduate University, your program can be inter-disciplinary in nature, offering you the opportunity to explore the implications of religious dialogue in relation to other fields (such as psychology, education, business, etc.)

Recent courses include:

  • World Religions in Dialogue
  • Religious Pluralism
  • Trans-religious Discourse: Christianity and Buddhism
  • Religious Diversity: Ethical, Political and Philosophical Perspectives
  • Ghandi’s Ethics and Challenges of the 21st Century
  • Religion and Liberal Democracy
  • Secularism
  • Theology of Globalization
