|
This 59-credit dual certification program in Dual Language / Bilingual Middle School Special and General Education provides teachers and prospective teachers fluent in Spanish with the broad preparation they need to work with the wide range of learners in grades 5 through 9 who may be in today's general, inclusive, or special education settings.
Learn about the developmental issues affecting young adolescents. Develop engaging curriculum across all subject areas, as well as in your area of academic specialization. In addition to receiving the same broad preparation as general and special education graduate students, you will delve into the academic, social and political issues surrounding the education of children for whom English is a new language. Special attention is paid to the plight of pre-adolescent and adolescent immigrants and new arrivals into the school system. You will learn and practice specific skills that will allow you to work effectively in dual language settings.
The program prepares Spanish-speaking bilingual teachers to work collaboratively in inclusive and special needs classrooms, work with parents, utilize community resources, and act as advocates for the children they teach.
