Boston University School of Medicine, the first medical school in the nation to grant the Master of Arts (MA), Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), and MD-PhD degrees in Medical Nutrition Sciences, is encouraging strong candidates for the 2005-2006 academic year. These interdisciplinary programs bring together the Boston University Schools of Medicine, Dental Medicine, and Public Health into a full collaboration on advanced degree training and draw upon the extraordinary resources of our major medical center. The rapid pace of discovery in science and medicine and emerging trends in public health underscore the importance of the interdisciplinary programs in Medical Nutrition Sciences. Graduates of our programs are prepared for outstanding professional career opportunities that include: basic, epidemiological and clinical nutrition research; advanced clinical nutrition practice; nutrition and public health promotion at the individual and population levels; nutrition policy and program planning; or nutrition and health communications.

The Master of Arts (MA) program provides an excellent educational framework for those interested in pursuing wide-ranging nutrition careers in diverse settings such as: major teaching hospitals, public and private health service organizations, local, state, and federal governments, private research organizations, pharmaceutical companies, consumer product companies, electronic and print media, or public relations and health consulting firms (Please see the attached listing of career opportunities for graduates in Medical Nutrition Sciences.) The MA program is also designed for those who desire a sound background in nutrition and preventive medicine prior to entering medical school or doctoral training. Applicants with advanced professional credentials (such as MD, DDS, DMD, RD, etc.) and those with undergraduate degrees nutrition, related sciences, and pre-medicine are particularly encouraged to apply.
