Leads to a Professional Teacher Licensure in Early Childhood Education (preK-2), Elementary Education (1-6), or Teacher of Students with Moderate Disabilities (Pre-K-8).

This program is for candidates who possess an Initial License in the area of Early Childhood, Elementary, or Teacher of Students With Moderate Special Needs (Pre-K - 8) who are seeking Professional Licensure in the same field and at the same level. The program concentrates on Reading as the academic discipline area for advanced study.

Program prerequisites:

* Possession of an Initial Teaching License in the field and at the level of licensure sought
* A completed graduate application
* Two professional references from supervisors or administrators from the educational school/district of employment indicating successful service under the Initial License
* An undergraduate transcript reflecting a minimum GPA of 2.67
* A personal interview with the program director or dean
* Completion of three years of employment in the role of the license sought. This requirement may be completed prior to or concurrently with the Professional License program.

Core Education Requirements (9 cr)

* EDC 517 Theories of Learning Disabilities (3 cr)
* EDC 460 Application of Technology in the Classroom (3 cr)
* EDC 486 Diagnostic Teaching (3 cr)

Two Electives from the following: (6 cr)

* EDC 554 Classroom Assessment PSY 412 Psychology of Behavior Management for Special Needs Children
* EDC 413 Communication Skills for Teachers and Learners
* EDC 468 Inclusive Practices / Action Based Research
* EDC 550 Seminar in Learning Disabilities

Required Reading Component (15 cr)

* EDC 403 Advanced Developmental Reading (3 cr)
* EDC 485 Advanced Analysis of Reading and Language Arts (3 cr)
* EDC 498 Specialized Practices in Reading (3 cr)
* EDC 446 Professional Seminar I (3 cr)
* EDC 503 Professional Seminar II (3 cr)

Note: Up to 9 credit hours of relevant graduate coursework from other four-year accredited institutions may be transferred to the AIC graduate program
