Successful completion of the program will entitle candidates to be recommended for initial licensure as reading teachers in Massachusetts and in other states as signatories to the Interstate Certification Compact. The program is composed of three major elements: the theoretical perspective that explores the process of reading as it relates to the other language processes of listening; speaking and writing, the diagnostic component that gains insight into a child’s reading process, and a practical component, in which research is related to practice, and reading-strategy instruction is applied and refined in direct contact with children.
