The Program in South Asian Studies centers on the culturally diverse region composed of India, Pakistan, Nepal, Tibet, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. With the help of the program adviser, students design an individual program of study by selecting among the courses on South Asia offered by different departments. Students specialize in one of four general areas: history (including art history); literature; religion and thought; or social science. In addition, students are required to choose courses in two areas other than their specialization. The program concludes with a substantial paper that brings synthesized perspectives from two (or more) disciplines to bear on a limited topic within the student’s area of concentration.
