The Language Based Learning Difficulties concentration is a graduate program developed by a statewide coalition of educators from public and private Institutions of Higher Education, the Vermont Department of Education, and private diagnosticians and service providers.

Developed in response to a shortage of special educators and/or speech and language pathologists with specific skill in serving students in middle and high schools, the aim is to provide a tightly structured program which prepares special educators to be leaders in developing and evaluating systems of intervention for adolescents with language based difficulties in reading, writing, thinking, and speaking.

The concentration is not, in and of itself, a degree program. Rather, it provides a focused course of study for students who have initial licensure in special education, or for special educators who wish to include it in their course of study in Castleton’s Masters of Arts program.
