-Degree Requirements-
This program allows you to create an individualized course of study. Because of its flexibility, the program allows you to investigate courses across a range of programs or to pursue one area of particular interest.

There are two program options: The 42-credit program leading to a Master of Science in Education (M.S. Ed.) degree is for students who do not have a prior master's degree; the 36-credit program leading to a Master of Education (Ed. M.) degree is for students who hold a prior master's degree. Neither version leads to certification.

Students in Studies in Education have pursued programs in areas such as writing for children, educational policy/advocacy, educational environments for children, or science education for elementary school children, to name only a few.

All students in the program are required to take courses from four core areas. The remaining academic credits are taken in courses relevant to your particular interests, including courses at Bank Street College, with a maximum of six graduate credits transferred into the program from other institutions.

The integration of coursework and field experiences is central to a Bank Street education. As a student in Studies in Education, you will have a year of fieldwork integrated with your courses, gaining insight into education through one placement in a classroom setting and the remaining experiences in a setting that is connected to your field of interest.
