The TESL degree is designed for students who plan to teach English to speakers of other languages or do further work in linguistics.

Required core courses
ENGL589: Graduate Seminar (3 credits)
ENGL597: Research Methods (3 credits)
ENGL595: Project Research (a minimum of 1 credit) or
ENGL699: Master's Thesis (a minimum of 1 credit).

Additional required courses:
ENGL465: TESL Methods (2 credits)
ENGL466: Phonetics and Phonology (3 credits)
ENGL469: Second Language Acquisition (3 credits)
ENGL505: Practicum (2 credits),
ENGL530: Discourse Analysis (3 credits)
ENGL540: Language and Culture (3 credits)

One of:
ENGL435: Topics in Linguistics (31-4 credits)
ENGL525: Topics (1-4 credits)

Two from:
ENGL474: Development of Modern English (3 credits)
A writing course (ENGL550 recommended), or
A literature course.
