About this School
Roane State Community College is located in eastern Tennessee. It was origionally authorized by the tennessee general assembly in 1969 along with two other community colleges. The first classes were offered in the fall of 1971 at a temporary location. In August 1973 the college moved to the current location of its main campus, on Patton Lane in Harriman, Tennessee. The school is primarily designed for students who intend to transfer to four year colleges. Additional campuses of Roane State are located in Oak Ridge, La Follette, Crossville, Jamestown, Knoxville, Lenoir City, and Huntsville. Its mascot is the Raider. For reasons known only to the trustees of the college, the mascot bears a striking resemblance to Nathan Bedford Forrest.
