About this School
Robert Morris University is a private co-educational college founded in 1921. Named after Robert Morris, RMU offers more than 30 bachelor's and 14 post-graduate degree programs. It is located on a 230 acre (931,000 m²) campus in Moon Township, Pennsylvania, a suburb of Pittsburgh, and has a satellite campus in downtown Pittsburgh. Robert Morris sports teams are nicknamed the Colonials. The school colors are blue and white. The Colonials compete in NCAA Division I (Division I-AA in football). The men's and women's ice hockey teams are members of the College Hockey America conference, while all other sports are sponsored by the Northeast Conference (Men's lacrosse and women's rowing are both independent). The basketball team plays in the Sewall Center and the football team will soon play in the newly constructed Joe Walton Stadium. Prior to 2002, it was known as Robert Morris College, but it is not related to Robert Morris College in Chicago, Illinois. Robert Morris University is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. Current enrollment is approximately 5,000 undergraduate and graduate students. On May 20, 2005, university officials announced that Gregory G. Dell'Omo, an administrator at St. Joseph's University, had been chosen to replace longtime president Edward Nicholson. Dell'Omo was installed as president on August 1, 2005.
