-Degree Requirements-
In the Early Childhood Education program leading to an Associate of Arts degree, a student will acquire the attitude, understanding, knowledge and skills needed for working with children in a pre-school environment. The AA degree is the minimum requirement for positions as teaching assistants or aides in Head Start, kindergarten, and primary school. Students will complete a 45-hour field practicum in a supervised classroom setting. This program is designed to be transferable for students who wish to complete a baccalaureate program at a four-year institution. Students intending to pursue a baccalaureate degree should consult the requirements of that institution when planning their program of study.

Learning Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of the Early Childhood Education Program of Study, the student will be able to
  • Demonstrate effective communication skills
  • Execute logical reasoning and problem-solving skills using mathematical and scientific principles
  • Demonstrate the ability to analyze artistic expression with knowledgeable perspective and effectively communicate that perspective to students
  • Understand human behavior as interpreted by the social science disciplines
  • Articulate the importance of American Indian culture within formal and informal learning.
  • Recognize the role of technology for teaching and promoting learning
  • Support healthy lifestyles for personal self-expression and social interaction
