The History Education program incorporates the History major and the General Education core along with the Professional Education core to prepare students to teach History skillfully in Christian, private, or public junior and senior high schools. The program leads to licensure in Tennessee which provides for students to be able to teach History in grades 7-12 in public schools. Licensure requires the successful completion of the PRAXIS II Assessments (formerly the National Teacher’s Exam) including the Specialty Area test in History, according to minimum scores determined by the Tennessee State Department of Education.
The graduate should also be able to:
(1) demonstrate competency in a variety of teaching methods;
(2) apply Christian virtues and ideas in the explanation and presentation of historical concepts;
(3) critically analyze modern emphases in the educational world;
(4) incorporate basic research tools and skills in order to write about and interpret history.
