Master’s in International Marketing
A degree in international marketing teaches students how management and marketing principles apply around the globe and among cultures. The key to successful international marketing is the ability to adapt, manage, and coordinate a marketing plan in an unfamiliar and often unstable foreign environment.
There are quite a few degree programs for a master’s in international marketing: a Master of International Marketing, an MBA with an emphasis in international marketing, or an Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA) in International Marketing. Most of these programs take a year or two of study and often provide a flexible schedule for working professionals. They are also offered completely online for those students who don’t have time to commute.
Admission requirements include completion of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) and an undergraduate degree in a marketing-related subject such as business or finance. Since it is international marketing, knowing a foreign language would also be a great skill to possess.

For those who prefer a foundation of business courses, there’s the MBA in marketing; while students looking for a more general marketing degree can pursue a Master of Science (M.S.) in marketing.
Students with a master’s degree in marketing also learn about consumer buying behavior and brand management strategies and techniques for targeting specific markets. Thinking about your own shopping habits can make these methodologies easier to understand. Common courses include marketing research, strategic marketing, marketing communications, customer management, and marketing analysis.
Marketing management, market research, advertising, sales, and public relations are career options available to individuals with a degree in international marketing. Advertising sales agents earn their salaries either on 100 percent commission or base salary plus commission, depending on the company. But according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the top 10 percent earned more than $96,040 in 2010.
There are several other MBA concentrations including marketing research, marketing communications, and marketing management. However, post-graduate work experience coupled with inclusion in key organizations like the American Marketing Association and networking can help you reach your career goals no matter which concentration you choose.
