Challenges Students Encounter as they Acclimate to College Life
When students enter into college life, there are many new things that they experience as a result. They are excited to start this adventure but really don’t know what to expect. They are sometimes unsure how to handle this new set of responsibilities that they are now faced with. Their excitement can quickly turn to stress if they don’t address the real life issues that can put a damper on their experience.
Having multiple classes, a part-time job, homework/studying and still having time for a social life is very hard to manage. Planning ahead and putting all responsibilities into an academic planner is a great way to start organizing. Keep the planner on you during the day so when a test or homework assignment is announced, you can easily add it to your schedule. Planning accordingly will leave time for yourself and any activities you are interested in participating.
Tuition costs are consistently rising and also another source of stress. In addition, there are other costs which include meals, supplies, textbooks and transportation. Keeping up with these expenses can become too much and can cause students to drop out of school. Getting a part-time job during school is a great solution to this problem. Many universities have on-campus jobs available to the students, which can help with time and transportation. This will also assist with time management because your schedule can be accommodated, and you will not have to worry about traveling a great distance.
Sickness and Health
Students will sometimes overwork themselves which can result in lack of sleep and increased stress. Time management is very important so that students do not wear themselves out. Students often dorm and have roommates which is an easy way to contract a virus or sickness. Everyone must be extremely cautious when going back to school during this time. COVID-19 is still a big factor in our world and is easily contracted so everyone should always clean and disinfect their areas. On top of cleaning, you should also be eating healthy and getting the right amount of sleep to help diminish the risk of getting sick.
Making friends at a new school can be hard and terrifying. An effortless way to start making friends is to join some clubs/sports that are offered to the students. Taking part in these activities is a great way to meet people with similar interests. Many schools also offer Greek life on campus which is a great way to meet different types of people and interact with other Greek life students.
There are many problems that students may face during their college years that aren’t mentioned. Although students become stressed when facing these problems, most will say that it was a great time in their lives. Students are creating memories everyday that they will think about throughout the years and never regret the experience.
