Summary
What makes George Washington University unique?

George Washington University was founded in 1821 by the United States Congress and the help of President George Washington. The school has a total undergraduate enrollment of about 25,000 students and is located in a dense urban setting in the Foggy Bottom neighborhood of Washington, D.C. just east of the Potomac River. The George Washington University has a student-to-faculty ratio of 13:1.

A majority of the university’s academic buildings are in Foggy Bottom, with residential halls situated close to the campus quad known locally as the University Yard. The school has five program-specific libraries, auditoriums, and administrative offices all built in the Brutalist style, and students enjoy a range of academic offerings from colleges like the Elliott School of International Affairs and the School of Public Health.

GWU has an extensive graduate network that includes multiple heads-of-state, Nobel Laureates, and even two Academy Award winners. Beyond academics, students at GWU can spend their weekends enjoying iconic museums like the National Gallery and the Smithsonian, and explore D.C. landmarks such as the Lincoln Memorial, The White House, and Capitol Hill. Notable alumni include Senator Elizabeth Warren, the late Jackie Kennedy-Onassis, and actress Kerry Washington.
