Questions & Answers
Question
Who are the notable alumni?
1 Answer
Answered by: Universities.com

Baker University helps spread the light in people — and some of its students have even gone on to find the spotlight. In sports, we have Mike Gardner, head football coach at Tabor College and Malone University; George LaFrance, Arena Football League hall of famer; Mike McCarthy, Green Bay Packers head coach who led the team to win the Super Bowl XLV; and Vidal Nuno, a pitcher who’s played for the New York Yankees, Arizona Diamondbacks, and Seattle Mariners. In business, we have Andrew Cherng, who’s the reason you can get kung pao chicken in five minutes thanks to his founding of Panda Express. In line with its Methodist roots, we have Don Wendell Holter, who became an American bishop of the United Methodist Church in 1972 and Bennett J. Sims who was the sixth bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Atlanta the same year. And in entertainment, there’s Candice Millard, a journalist and writer of The River of Doubt and Destiny of the Republic, and Kevin Mahogany, a jazz singer.

Question
What is the campus setting like?
1 Answer
Answered by: Universities.com

Baldwin City, Kansas, is home to the main Baker University campus for students in the College of Arts & Sciences and Undergraduate School of Education. With a town population of around 4,500, the vibe is just shy of a pasture of grazing cows, and the campus is quiet and safe. About 1,000 students walk around the 10 acres to get to one of the 20-some dignified brick buildings that make up the campus. You’ll find among the buildings the Clarice L. Osborne Memorial Chapel and First United Methodist Church, where students can go to uphold the Methodist values and faith the school was founded on. Students who enroll in Professional and Graduate Studies, the School of Nursing, or the Graduate School of Education take up learning in one of five other campuses around Kansas and Missouri such as Overland Park, Lee’s Summit, Kansas City, Topeka, and Wichita.

Question
What are the online learning and extension/adult learning opportunities?
1 Answer
Answered by: Universities.com

Adult learners can take up their studies across Kansas and Missouri with the School of Professional and Graduate Studies. For even greater convenience, Baker University offers online education for bachelor’s degrees, a graduate degree in business, a graduate degree in education, and MBAs. And if you’re worried about the cost of your laptop and Internet service, feel better about the affordable online tuition Baker offers at about $525 a credit. Currently around 250 students enjoy accessing their class materials at any time of the day from anywhere.

Question
What are the athletic highlights?
1 Answer
Answered by: Universities.com

Baker University dons orange to compete in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics as the Wildcats. Students can earn their spot on one of the 19 sports teams, ranging from the usual ball throwing variety to the ones where you just need a strong pair of legs and even stronger endurance. The Wildcats have earned more than 100 All-Americans and nearly 100 conference titles. More important than the wins the Wildcats have racked up is the program it takes part in: The Champions of Character program upholds the university’s values and emphasizes respect, servant leadership, integrity, sportsmanship, and responsibility.

Question
What are the school's academic highlights?
1 Answer
Answered by: Universities.com

As the first university in Kansas, Baker has had years to develop the liberal arts programs it offers. You can find your passion in classrooms with usually no more than 20 students between four schools: the School of Education, School of Nursing, School of Professional and Graduate Studies, and the College of Arts and Sciences. And you can even take this time to actually find yourself — in faith and character — as the school was founded by the United Methodist Church and continues to this day to uphold its values. As such, no matter your major, be it business management, marketing, social sciences, education, biology, or biomedical studies, every student is challenged to learn and grow ethically, through experiences and thoughtful reflection.
