Pike's Peak or Bust
Discover why Colorado is one of the happiest states in the country
Colorado's state motto is "come to life," which seems appropriate considering the state is home to a national park, majestic mountain towns and a multitude of family-friendly events. It's also a great place for a fresh start. With over 16 community, state and private colleges, and 200,000 students, many come to the center of the states for a totally revamped life experience. Many big-name companies are headquartered in Colorado, including Coors, Crocs, Dish Network, Hitachi Software and MediaNews Group. So naturally, students here major in a wide variety of disciplines including engineering, design, and business. The U.S. Air Force Academy is also located here, so military studies is another popular choice. and with an unemployment rate of 5.3%, well below the national average, you'll have better chances at finding a career in your field.
Colorado is home to major cities like Denver and Boulder and smaller ones like Alamosa or Aurora. Whether you choose quiet country or big city life in this picturesque state, there are plenty of ways to stay busy. Denver claims to have invented the cheeseburger, while thousands of valentines are re-mailed every year from Loveland. The state also has more microbreweries per capita than any other state, which you might need after exam week. Experience one of the best waterfall hikes in the nation in Rocky Mountain National Park or Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve. In the winter, hit the snowy trails with a rented "fat bike" or glide down the slopes of Breckenridge or one of Colorado's other famous resorts for nationally renowned skiing and snowboarding. Summertime brings rodeo season, and Colorado is home to the world's largest rodeo and several others over 100 years old. Whether hiking to the summit of Pike's Peak or walking across the stage to get your diploma is your goal, Colorado has everything you need for a scenery filled destination.
